7 Questions You Should Answer Before Blogging

Posted on 16. Dec, 2009 by in Blogging for beginners, Guest Posts

This is the first guest post at NoviceBloggers. This is written by Gagandeep Singh of Invesp

Are you inspired by great bloggers who are very popular, followed by most of the bloggers and earning a good amount of money from their blogs ? Inspired by them, if you want to start your own blog then you should start thinking again. Hundreds and Thousands of blogs are added daily in blogosphere and most of them die after few months. Being a successful blogger or earning a decent amount of money from it is not that easy. You have to take your decision carefully to save yourself from the frustration at the end. So to help you in this I am trying to list some questions which you should ask yourself before starting your own blog.

What is the Prime objective to start blog?

Whether you want to blog to share something with others or you want to just to earn money ? If your prime objective is to earn money then you should start thinking again. Blogging should be always about sharing and earning should always be your secondary goal.

Do you have anything Unique to say?

Personally I feel this is not possible because people have written on almost everything you can imagine thousands of times before you. So I would like you to change my question to “Can you say/write something in unique way?” Now this is definitely a possible thing. Everybody has its own style and if you think then you can express things in a new way then you should definitely go for blogging.

Do you have ability to Focus?

There is no use to start blogging if you are going to leave it after few days or don’t able to do it with determination. Most of the bloggers lose their interest after few months and stop updating their blogs. The best way to not to lose focus is write about things for which you are very passionate and enjoy when you write about them.

Are you always ready to learn?

Blogging is not a procedure it is a process where you will learn each and every day something new from your mistakes. To be a successful bloggers you first need to become a dedicated learner.

Can you accept Failures Easily?

Okay, now this is a fact that every blog won’t be hit or every article you post on your blog would be appreciated by community. So you should have quality to accept failures and criticism in a positive way and then move ahead. You need to understand that a journey to success starts with a failure.

Do you have Vision for your Blog?

Anything which is started without a vision doesn’t last for long time. Set your goals and have a clear vision in your mind about where you would like to see your blog after a year and then work on that. Setting a goal will always keep you motivated and won’t let your mind to get distracted easily.

Do you have Patience?

If you are expecting overnight results then Blogging is not your cup of tea. It may sound harsh to you but it’s a fact. You have to be patient because it takes time to get recognized in community or to appear on radar of others. So don’t lose heart if you can’t see results easily and keep doing the good work.

I am sure that there are many other questions which I am not aware about or can’t include them in my article. But I would be glad if you can share some questions in the comments below and let us the know the questions which you think are most important.

You make a great point that making money should not be your first goal. If it is, it will show through in all your writing, commenting and interaction. If you just have fun and blog about things you like the money will start rolling in anyway, so why focus too much on it?

    Great post mate!

Probably another great question is can you accept controversy. No matter how well you think to safe topics and such, you still may find that a post you make causes a stir, or a comment to one of your posts creates a great debate. You have to be prepared for the unexpected when it comes to blogging, because there is usually no such thing as making everyone happy.

      @kikolani ,

You have a good point , but according to me controversy could be only for a short period of time and after that you would be back on old track ,

Instead of Controversy we can say that you should be ready to accept criticisms and learn from your mistakes

  5. Vision is so important. As it’s always said in the blogging world – you won’t get rich over night. It’s a marathon.

A great question to ask youself once you’ve selected a particular area to start blogging would be ‘can I see myself writing at least 100 blog posts’ If you can’t brainstorm 100 blog topic ideas then I would recommend choosing a different topic!

Great post Gagandeep. I will share this with my readers :)

Another question would be, can one pick themselves up after failure? Not all users can blog, it takes time and patience and one has to know that they are in it for the long run.

I started my blog just to get my thoughts and opinions out and I have just recently started to make some good cash. Even if I don’t ever make money again, I’ll still blog. It’s my way of releasing myself and to get to know others around the world.

In addition to dealing with failure, may I add dealing with attacks and bad attitude. I recently had somebody defame me unfairly and although I eventually was cleared of no wrong-doing, it did make me question whether it was all worth it, should I sell my site, should I attack back, etc.

You have to be patient as you say and have the mental toughness and good heart to keep pursuing your dream.

These are all very good points, one that I missed when first starting to blog is checking to see trends on my topic, I found after over a year that my topic just wasn’t popular, so getting significant traffic just wasn’t possible and it was discouraging. On the other side of that, the blog helped to promote my local business to the top of the SERP’s in no time and I think it indirectly made me money because of that.

    Thanks for the tips…

Patience is the one thing that most new bloggers are lacking off. Blogging is not an overnight success. You will have to really work hard for it, in creating content, promoting it and more before you can start to see the results that you want.

Great tips you have here that anyone who is new to blogging should read at least twice.

Success in blogging can be very disappointing. You can’t totally be successful because you have to equip yourself with courage. Otherwise, it would be a big issue for you if you can’t see any improve in your site.
