Create a free self hosted wordpress blog in one hour!!!

Creating a domain of their own may be dream of many. Who don’t wish to create a blog with their own domain and absolutely free of cost. Most of does. Are you such a person. Then this tutorial guides you how to do it.

I recently read a nice article on how to build a self hosted wordpress blog. It was a nice read but some of the points mentioned didn’t work. Especially the domain hosting one. So I have decided to revise some points so that you can create a wordpress blog on your own with your own domain.

Why own domain?

I personally dislike being with sub domains like blog.blogspot.com, blog.wordpress.com etc.., Also having our domains can give us many options like uploading files,including and editing pages and still having the power of blogs.

Getting domains Free:

Getting a domain is simple and easy. Check a domain name is available,register it and pay for it. Thats it. You get a domain for yourselves. But getting a domain absolutely of no charges has only one option and it is CO.CC.

Check whether a domain you wish is available. For our demo purpose lets use “myblogfordemo.co.cc”

If it is available go for registration.

After you registered yourselves and all the confirmation formalities are over, you will be directed for the domain setup page.

Make sure you setup the domain in 48 hours or else your registration will be canceled and you lose the domain you wished. Completing this go for Web hosting part.

Web Hosting – Free:

If you wish to opt for free web hosting there are so many services available in the Internet but the service best among them is Xtreemhost.com. It is best because

It provides 5500 mb of space

200 gb monthly bandwidth.

This is the most free web hosters can provide as I know. So go for xtreemhost.com.

Again register yourselves there. Please check the box as we have already created a domain at co.cc. If you have not created a domain it will let you to create.

It asks you to create a subdomain of xtreemhost.com. Just create but we are not going to use it.

Enter the subdomain

You will be sent a confiramtion mail and user name starting with “xth_” and passoword will be mailed to you upon confirmation.Log into your panel.

Click on the addon domains.

Enter the blog URL we created in Co.cc.

It will setup the host for our site and note down the name servers.

Back to co.cc. Go to the setup page of our domain in co.cc.

Click the name servers radio button and give the name servers noted from Xtreemhost.com.It will inform you that domain will be created in 48 hours. But for me domains are created in 5 minutes. Depends on your luck.

Installing wordpress on your domain:

Now for installing WordPress on your site. Goto xtreemhost.com and login your panel. Select iVista Script installation in the software and services section.

Select the blog you wish to install script. Here we choose “myblogfordemo.co.cc”

We can install any scripts we need. Click install in the wordpress section.

It will prompt you for where to install the script. If you would like to choose in sub directory please mention the sub directory or else leave it as such. In our example I selected the sub directory “/blog”.

Thats it. You have now created the blog.Hurrah!Visit the site and there will be wordpress blog ready for you. Here is our example blog’s screen shot.

Your wordpress blog is ready in less than a hour. In our upcoming posts we will see how to redirect from non-www version of your blog to www version and vice versa, also creation of Domain Specific Emails using Google Apps. So don’t forget to subscribe for the posts.

Manually installing wordpress is not a great deal and you can learn it easily. So many tuts are available online.
