Do’s And Dont’s To Get More Followers In Twitter

Twitter is one of the best social bookmarking sites. It was founded in 2006 by Jock Dorsey. According to one survey on October 2009 around 79.7 million people are using twitter. One of the major factors for much blog traffic is twitter. On December 2009 a survey said that twitter crossed 6.8 billion tweets. So it is necessary to know about twitter. Let us see some of Do’s and Don’ts with twitter to get more followers. This will help you to get more followers and also more traffic to your blog.
Do’s
Customized Profile
Just make a customized twitter profile for your account. Choose a customization that suits to you. Make clear information about you, your blog and your profession. You have 160 characters to tell everyone who you are and what your interests are. Place a good gravatar for your account. It should be related to your information.
Promote Through Your Blog
To get more followers, just place a twitter icon and connect it with your account in your blog. And also you can place twitter widgets like Number of twitter followers, tweet counts, recent twitter visitors and regular visitors. You can get these widgets and button for your blog in twittercounter.
Try To Follow Back
Choose right people to follow. Don’t see the number of followers in that account. Just see whether that person suits to your profession and to your blog. Try to follow back the people who follow you. But don’t follow them just for name sake. See whether they are professional and their tweets status. Thank those who re-tweet you of give you by #follow.
Submit To Directories
Similar to submitting our blog to directories, we can also submit our twitter account to many directories. This will increase your twitter followers. I have mentioned few directories here. Have a try with these. WeFollow, WhoShouldFollow, twello, twittervision. You can also sign up your account twitterfeed. Just provide auto tweet for technical news and world news. Tweet Regularly
Consistency is need in everything. So tweet regularly. If you see a great, quality content in any blog, don’t hesitate to tweet that. You can never expect your Twitter profile to gain any attention if you don’t Tweet regularly. You have to be willing to post on a regular basis. Engage in conversations and retweet messages that you think are great to spread.
Direct Message
If you like the works of someone then appreciate them through direct message. This will provide a good encouragement to that person.
All points said above are used to increase your twitter followers and this also increase your blog traffic.
Dont’s
There is possibility to lose your twitter followers. I have mentioned few points regarding that.
Don’t Post Unnecessary Tweets
Try to avoid this. Don’t tweet anything that is not related to conversation. It will be a spam. Tweet your favourites and a valid message. Don’t send invalid message through DM. It will irritate your followers.
Don’t Reply Late
Some people may be waiting for your answer regarding some conversation. So try to respond to your queries properly.
Don’t Post Spam Links
This is a common thing we should avoid. Every day we face many spam links in our twitter account. It’s an irritation. We can promote our blog but it should be in a decent way and it should not hurt our followers.
Don’t speak just to yourself
This is a social bookmarking website and just interact with your followers. Try to create useful conversations. Be unique and use same username and gravatar for your profile. Take time time to retweet your followers submission too.
Don’t Use The Full Space
Don’t use the entire 140 characters. Try to use Bit.ly to shorten long url. When you leave some space in 140 characters this will help others to spread the word through retweet. Doing like this help your users to engage more with you.

Doing Tweets regularly is always a good habit to increase followers and also to retain them. But you may stuck with many works in weekdays. Its always better use TwitterFeed to your profiles. (http:www.twitterfeed.com/). You can put feeds to the most popular websites in your industry.
And other important thing – I like to share is give credit to the original source. Many tweeples like to be Columbus always..!
Remember always that giving credit to master mind, thanking others – are the best habits to keep the online friends..

I also use Tweet Spinner to target people that tweet about the specific keywords (ecommerce, blogging, social networking etc…) and it automatically finds them for me.

Twitter works well when you use it as a spotlight to put the focus on EVERYONE ELSE.
The biggest key that I can see in building your number of followers and your influence on Twitter, is to not give a damned about your number of followers and boosting your influence on Twitter.
