Posted on 31. Aug, 2010 by in Internet & Web Design, SEO, Tweaking Tuesdays

Google experiments often with all its products. Not to forget the updates it done on Google Reader , better looks and introduction offorum results. These being said, Google now makes a update in Gmail with Priority Inbox. Does it sound any alarm? Yes, it can sort all of your important emails and present them at the top so that you will never miss any.

Priority Inbox:

Ever had a situation that you have lot of mails in your inbox and you give it a glance in hurry? You would probably find most of them unimportant. So you decide to archive them instead of reading everything. At those time,it is most likely that you include some important mails in it. But Gmail brings a solution for it with the feature called Priority Inbox. This feature can figure out the mails that figure out the mails that you read and reply often.

How it works:

Google is quite good in filtering Spam messages. Day by day it learns more to filter out spam messages more effectively so that users dont have to give a little thought about them. Similarly, there are some internal filters that would help in prioritizing the inbox. In the Gmail Blog Post, Google says,

Priority Inbox splits your inbox into three sections: “Important and unread,” “Starred” and “Everything else”. .. Gmail uses a variety of signals to predict which messages are important, including the people you email most

Also it gives an option for you to increase and decrease the priority of particular conversation. Cool, isn’t it?

When the feature is released:

This feature is currently in beta release and can be used only Google Apps users. If you own a Google Apps account you can use it. In its Priority inbox page, Google says, this feature will be rolled out to Gmail users in next week. We, just like you, are eagerly waiting to know how it works.

You can know that this feature is rolled out if you find New Priority Inbox! link at the top right corner of your Gmail account,Google says.

I congrats Gmail team for this advance features but it has a drawbacks too like “Are you able to sort out your previous messages of your inbox based on Priority?”

So its not a complete Priority box for now. When Google resolve this problem than we can call it has a Priority Inbox.

Whereas there is a other way of making the things possible. It can sort out all your previous and upcoming mail based on priority but I can’t remember the name for now. I will check and update here in future.

Very interesting read. I am a blogger myself and of lately I have found that managing my own site has been a pain in the neck, especially for those technical jargon i have to solve. I recently found a new blogging community where you can just setup a blog and forget about it. Check it out, might be useful later
