Google says, “Cool Buddy, never look SERP for definitions”

Posted on 17. May, 2010 by Senthil Ramesh in Internet & Web Design, Marvelous Mondays

It is Google again. This is gonna be the smartest update by Google in last one year. I don’t know whehter they made any official announcement about this – but this update is simply awesome. Lets see what it does.

More than Auto-Suggestions:

Google got a new look and the speed is also pretty good. Silently, it is also adding some new features to make itself better. Google’s auto suggestions sometimes are hilarious. But Google attempts to add some additional features to make its auto-suggestions better and easier to look for definitions..

  • You can find the web definition of something you need, in the suggestion list itself
  • If you type something as “What is …..”, Google will automatically tell the definition via auto-suggestions. No need to look at SERP. Cool, isn’t it?

Just have a look at this,

Web Definition for microsecond

Web Definition for microsecond

It has become very easy to understand common things via suggestions.

Web Definition for IP

Web Definition for IP

Funny definition:

As usual, Google doesn’t bother other search engines. Calling Yahoo as intelligent fellow.

Web Definition for Yahoo

Web Definition for Yahoo

And calling Bing as food???

Web Definition for Bing

Web Definition for Bing

Twitter, meaning, making noise as birds, is really making noise nowadays.

Web Definition for Twitter

Web Definition for Twitter

And what we thought as dating is not what comes in Definition ;)

More towards business:

Google taknig these suggestions form web-definitions sites. But it seems that Google gives more priority to businees related stuffs.
I have asked about ‘Sky” but Google showing me Skype.

Web Definitions for Skype

Web Definitions for Skype

And for crowd as well,

Web Definitions for Crowd Sourcing

Sources for Definitions:

Though, there are many sites that can give you Web Definitions, Google prefers some sites to show it in auto suggestions. May be those that are very reliable and often updated. As I have explored,I could find mostly from Wikipedia(of course, the knowledge bank) and sometimes from other sites like Wordnet Web. If you can find some other sites as its source then do let us know and we can add it here.

  • From Wikipedia
  • Web Definitions for Facebook

    Web Definitions for Facebook

  • From Wordnet Web
  • Web Definitions for Speed

    Web Definitions for Speed

I guess there will be more which we will cover in future.

Last but not least, I really feel pity for Google. Why doesn’t there is no definition comes for “What is Google” in auto suggestions???

No Web Definitions for Google

No Web Definitions for Google

Is that because Google has become very common that it needs no definition or is it because they have lot of known products and services and not possible to give definition for all of those services that it provides?

Google keeps on improving their system. There are some positive results for users but not for bloggers.

Because thru this Google system, They can easily be redirected to the real and correct website.

And this website is ussually the big site,m so what about us bloggers who owns small site..

    just my thought
