How to increase Traffic during Contests Part II

Posted on 24. Dec, 2009 by in Blogging for beginners, Technical Thursdays

This is the second part of the series, How to increase traffic to your blog during contets. This can be taken as How to promote your contests, too. We have dealt in the part I of the series as, how to increase the traffic using social media sites, like Twitter, Facebook etc..,

This article deals with making some simple changes and methodologies, that can easily get notified about your contest which can make the people to show interest and spread the word.

Use Analytics:

Though this is somewhat complicated, or needs some experience in using analytics, you must take this for granted. Analytics is the best tool (Google offers free analytics at http://www.google.com/analytics) for tracking your visitors and your site’s stats. Take a note at the sources from where your visitors reach your site/blog. If sufficient number of people come from referral sites, concentrate more on them. If they are some social networks or social bookmarking sites, promote in them by the points mentioned in first part of this series. If they are from other blogs, be active in them. When you are active on them, definitely people take a look over you and visit your site which increases the exposure of contest.

Change your signature:

Signatures are the best places to get something noticed. Be it is email signature or signature at forums, change them to include a link to your contest and if possible give a small description of your contest. Make sure the title is so catchy and tempts the users to reach for the contest and participate in it. When it comes to email signature it makes your buddies and frequent emailers to get noticed about the contest.

Thread at forums:

Forums are great place to hang our and learn more. There are people who spend most of the times in forums. But, not everyone knows that there are separate categories of contests at forums. Popular forums like Digital point provides them. Start a new thread at those forums, giving a detailed description about your contest, with a link to the contest.

Blogs related to the contest:

Sometimes, contests at blogs come at same time. Take it in the month of December, we can find lot of contests at many blogs. We must utilise those blogs to promote the contest(but please don’t spam). Find Blogs that hold contests or similar contests like yours. Give a small note at the comments to inform the readers about your users. People generally would like to try their luck most of the times and would like to give a try in another contest if they cant win in this contest.

These are some simple things that we can do in order to promote our contests. This ends the series, and we love to hear from you at the comments what we have missed and what do you feel about these points.
