There are many ways to promote our blogs. But we have to choose the right way to promote it. There are many social bookmarking sites like twitter, friendfeed, facebook, stumbleupon etc.We should the right site for promoting our websites. Last week I explained about using twitter effectively. This week let’s see how to use facebook effectively. Here I have summarized some points for using facebook effectively.
Create a professional profile page
Try to make your facebook profile page neat and informative. If it’s purely used for blogging don’t use irrelevant application in your page. Just add the information of your blog correctly. You can also add appropriate logo for your page. You can also add inspirational quotes in your profile page.
Join In Useful Groups
There are many groups in facebook. Choose the groups related to your website. Don’t join the group which is not appropriate. Don’t see the numbers of persons in a group. See it content and quality before joining.
Post an introduction
After joining in a group, just give an introduction about you and what you are doing. You can also mention your blog in its wall. This will be helpful for you to promote your network.
Consistency
Many people just join in a community and never visit to that again. We should not be like that. Just give an active participation in that group. You can promote that group to your friends. This will provide good response to your blog in turn. It is important to stay consistent in Facebook as with all the other social bookmarking applications.
Post a topic for discussion
You ask also promote your blog by taking part in discussion. Just post a topic and discuss your ideas with group members. Check back on this discussion often so you can participate and remain an active part of it.
Other social bookmarking in facebook
This is one of the interesting factors in facebook. You can connect other social bookmarking sites with your facebook account. For example you can your twitter, Friendfeed, LinkedIn. This helps to get more readers for your blog. Traffic of your site also gets increased.
NetworkedBlogs
This is one of the applications mainly for bloggers. You can create your own website page profile in this. Articles on your website automatically get displayed in networkedblogs. This helps your readers to read the content of the article from facebook itself. You can also follow blogs that are relevant to you. You get followers to your blog also.
Social RSS
Social RSS application used to connect your blog to your facebook wall. This displays the article based on RSS feed. The main feature of this application is that the recent articles will be immediately published in facebook. You can also keep this RSS application in fan page.
How To Create Fan Page For Your Blog
For newbies, this instruction will be helpful. So only I am summarizing the steps to create fan page.
1. Login to your facebook page, you will find Advertising option in the footer. If you click that you can see an option “create facebook page” or Click here.
2. There you can fill all the necessary details of your blog. You can choose name for your blog, logo and quotes. After finishing all details you can promote it.
3. You can publish it to your facebook friends too. You can place this fan page in your website also. This is another way of promoting and getting new friends.
BTW, you can join our Facebook Fan Page shown below the content.
Facebook Plugins For Your Blog

After creating your fan page in facebook, you can display that in your blog sidebar using this plugin. You can activate this by mentioning your facebook id. This helps to get more fan for your blog through facebook.

This is another interesting plugin. Gigya allows you to authenticate users through Facebook Connect, MySpaceID, Twitter, Google and Yahoo. Beside this, you can update your social networking sites within your blog and invite your friends to visit your blog through this plugin.

I think that connecting other accounts to your Facebook (Twitter, Delicious, Youtube, etc.) help you maintain constant activity without having to always be on Facebook itself. It is definitely good to visit your news feed and comment on other people’s updates when you can, as the more interactive and social you are, the more true friendships you will develop there.
