Super 7 out of the box WordPress SEO tips

Most of us do blogging to earn something. Thats why you visit Novicebloggers.com. And to earn something you need traffic from Search Engines. Now its not possible for every blogger to be a master of SEO but there are a few things you can do right after the WordPress install that can dramatically increase your visibility in SERPS. So, here is a checklist of things to do after the install and before the first post to get things on track.

Platinum SEO plugin: The best SEO plugin out there for wordpress is based on the hugely popular AIOSEO and improves upon it. Auto meta tags generation, 301 redirects, Canonical URLs, ability to add a large variety of tags etc makes this the numero uno priority.

Bookmark it: Search engines need to know your blog exists. But submitting a site to Search engines is a real slow way to get indexed. For fast indexing, bookmark it at popular dofollow social bookmarking sites like Mister Wong. Don’t just submit to nofollow bookmarking sites.

Webmaster tools: Sign up for Webmaster tools if you haven’t already. Install a plugin for sitemaps like Google XML Sitemaps and create a sitemap. Submit it to Webmaster tools. This tells the Search engines about the contents of your blog and helps easy indexing. Moreover the plugin auto updates the sitemap every time you add something.

Title tag: Get the keywords in the title tag. They have high importance in terms of on-page SEO and can easily jump you SERPs a couple of pages. Don’t spam by repeating keywords though. Keep it relevant and of moderate length.

Meta Description tag: Use this to tell the searchers what your post or blog is about to make them click on your listing. Keep it on topic and highlight the core matter of your pst. Also a good place to make “action calls” like “Visit Now”.

Image alternate text tags: Use your targeted keyword as your alternate image tag for the site logo. Open up the header file in theme editor and add the alternate tag.

Example:

IMAGE TAG-  <img src=”image.gif” alt=”This is my dog, Fido” />

ALTERNATE TAG- alt=”Keyword”

MODIFIED CODE- <img src=”image.gif” alt=”Keyword” />

Get some instant links: There are a lots of forums which have a review section in which you can ask other to review your blog. Drop an anchor texted link in a post asking for a review. Easy links. There are dofollow forums like Digitalpoint where you can ask for reviews. Blog comments are also nice way to build em.

    I am using All In One SEO at this moment. I have used Platinum SEO in the past, I guess All In One SEO is working good for me.

    By the way, if I would like to move on with Platinum SEO, will there be any negative changed to my previous posts?

      No Akash. There is an option of importing all from ur all in one seo pack. You can import it into platinum seo and then deactivate AIO.

    Don’t forget to promote every post, twitter, facebook, LinkedIn, etc.

    Also, the blog commenting is more than just getting links. It is promotion as well. After I write a post I always go find some blogs I regularly comment on (usually they have commentluv like I do) and write a quality comment. This can help promote your article.

      @ Chandan – IMO Blog comments do a better job than forum signatures if both are dofollow. If the comment is nofollow then, as Senthil said forum links have more power because signatures spread across many pages giving more power.

      But if you get 1 dofollow backlink on a related post in a decent blog , believe me, it packs a lot more punch than sig links on 1000 pages.

    I actually have to say the image tag traffic can be surprisingly useful. While the ‘majority’ of it is pretty much people coming and either downloading or hot linking your images I have gotten readers from it.

    I just started using Webmaster Tools and saw that there were over 80 links that were broken. I am currently going through them and correcting them. Correct links play an important role and one should not ignore broken links.

    I know some of the others, but there are 2 that I will have to read up about, thanks for listing them.
