Posted on 02. Dec, 2009 by in Wordpress, Wordpress Wednesdays

Hello everyone, as you know this is WordPress Wednesday, a day where we update weekly the posts related to wordpress. As we have started this new category, we are starting with some useful tips for WordPress Newbies. We have covered Part I one of this tips last wednesday and today we are covering few more points.

Enable XML RPC Publishing

As everyone looks for simple ways to do things, we Bloggers too look for some simple tips to make the blogging life easier. For people who don’t know, we can use some addons, or third party softwares to write and publish in the blog. But to do all of this we should make our blog to be written by other applications.. Who likes always to write from the old “admin” panel. So, if you would like to Blog from various sources, you should enable the XML RPC Protocol in your blog. This can be found at

Settings >> Writing >> Check the box saying “Enable the WordPress, Movable Type, MetaWeblog and Blogger XML-RPC publishing protocols ”

XML-RPC
You are done and now you can blog from Various other sources.

Add NoFollow to Archives and Category pages

This is one tip to make your blog SEO Friendly. Search Engine Optimisation is the field where you make your site or blog to be effectively found at the users’ queries. But, search engines don’t love duplicate content. If you make your archives and categories page to be indexed in Search Engines, there is a possibility that they can be thought as duplicate content and which in turn reduces the reputation of the blog. So, making the archives and categories pages “No Index” or “No Follow” can make them not to be indexed by search engines and you will not face the “Duplicate content” problem.

Make Proper Redirection

Another SEO thing. Having a proper redirection and checking the broken links can be one of the best things you should take care of your blog. If you have a blog called “domain.com”, decide you need your visitors need to come to “domain.com” and “www.domain.com”. If you don’t redirect that can make your blog as two seperate domains to search engines. So redirecting the one to other can solve this problem. 301 redirection is the best way for it. Depending on the server you host (Windows or Linux ) you can get the code for redirection or contact your host regarding this.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention that we can redirect using a plugin of wordpress. Here is the plugin Redirection

Full RSS Feed

There has been so much argument on delivery of RSS feeds to user. Though there are sufficient number of people support for both types of feeds (summary feed and full content feeds), I generally prefer Full RSS Feeds. Delivering full RSS feed can make your reader know the full content in their RSS reader or in email itself (depends on the subscription type). If your give only summary, people may come to your site only if the summary is so catchy or you are a blog writer who gets comments and readers for whatever you write. Delivering full feeds can be done by

Settings >> Reading >> Enable the Radio Button near For Each Article in a feed show, Full feed

Full Feed

I prefer to use summary RSS feed. One of the main reason, preventing others from copy and paste my article directly from their email subscription.
